JAB Development Programme 2016
JAB Development Programme 2016

The main Objectives of the RFit Rugby Development Programme are to:

  1. Increase playing numbers at JAB level
  2. Increase playing numbers at Motueka High School Club and Under 18
  3. Keep age grade players in the game into senior level
  4. Provide a pathway from JAB, through intermediate into senior rugby
  5. Improve basics skill across all levels
  6. Mentor and encourage individual players at all levels
  7. Improve coaching skills and knowledge by coaching the coaches
  8. Teach responsibility, discipline and respect for themselves and the game.

The Riwaka RFC plans to achieve these objectives by making the programme accessible, fun and free to anyone who wishes to participate. Intermediate and Senior groups use RFit Gym and this has a $20.00 month membership fee. In special circumstances this RFit Gym fee can be waived however approval for this to happen must be sort from the Programme Manager.

The programme will be based on the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) 6 Pillars of Player Development and includes:

  1. Technical: Catch & Pass, Tackle, Running Lines, Positional Specific
  2. Tactical: Understanding your role, game plan, leadership, rugby laws
  3. Physical: Aerobic fitness, speed, power, strength
  4. Nutrition: General, pre & post training/game, individual needs, hydration, supplements
  5. Mind Skills: Routines, mindfulness, visualisation, dealing with pressure
  6. Professional Development: Not limited too - rugby & career planning, job placement, budgeting & nutrition, coaching courses & more.

The development programme operates two seasonal programmes per year, an In Season Programme and an Out of Season Programme. The In Season Programme runs during the rugby season from April through to July with a three month break in August, September and October the Out of Season Programme runs from November through to March with a break over the Christmas New Year period.

Training is done at Cooks Reserve where equipment and facilities are readily available.

The programme will consist of three levels of participation, JAB, Intermediate, and Senior. Each level will train separately however there may be some crossover training.

JAB Level

The JAB Level will be available to any age grade players from 5 years to 13 years old and JAB coaches. The programme will focus on two target groups within this level - current JAB players and primary school groups within the Motueka Area.

JAB

In Season - Runs during the rugby season and provides advice and support for Riwaka JAB coaches.

Out of Season - Runs from February to the beginning of the rugby season proper. Training sessions are held at Cooks Reserve. Times and dates for 2019-20 to be confirmed.

Primary Schools

In Season - There will be no formal In Season Programme as our Rugby Development Officer will be busy with club and school teams at this time of year. He may respond to schools if requested and if time is available.

Out of Season - Visit schools and promote rugby through teaching basic technical skills and promoting ripper rugby, seven-a-side rugby, and touch rugby.

A priority should be given to attendance at primary schools during the first and fourth terms of each year when rugby sevens and touch rugby school tournaments occur.

Intermediate Level

The Intermediate Level will be available to age grade players from 14 years to 18 years old and coaches.

In Season - Provide advice and support to all teams and coaches as required. This part of the programme will be conducted at Motueka High School on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and will have to be co-ordinated around Riwaka RFC JAB commitments.

Out of Season - Runs from November to December with a break over Christmas and starting back in January. Times and dates for 2019-20 to be confirmed.

The Motueka High School Rugby Club may run independent development programmes during the year. The RFit Rugby Development Officer may assist with these programmes as time allows.

Senior Level

The Senior Level will be available to any Senior Rugby Players and may include some intermediate level members if they are deemed suitable by the Development Officer.

In Season - Provide advice and support to all Riwaka RFC senior teams and coaches at their weekly training sessions.

Out of Season - Runs from November December with a break over Christmas and starting back in January. Training sessions are held at Cooks Reserve. Times and dates for 2019-20 to be confirmed.
